Email Signature for Doctors & GPs
Clinical email is read under stress. A doctor's signature should do quiet administrative work: exact identity, registration, the right phone number for the right problem, and nothing that could be mistaken for clinical advice.
What a doctor's signature should include
- Full name with qualifications and registration number (e.g. GMC number in the UK).
- Practice or department, and the correct contact for appointments vs urgent matters, labelled.
- A line directing emergencies to emergency services; patient emails need that boundary in writing.
- Secretary or admin contact if that's how your clinic routes scheduling.
What to leave out
- Anything resembling medical guidance in a footer.
- Personal mobile numbers.
- Decorative imagery, clinical correspondence is not a branding surface.
