Email Signature for Teachers
A teacher's email signature reaches parents, colleagues and sometimes students, three audiences with different expectations. The right signature is plain, institutional and boundaried.
What a teacher's signature should include
- Your role and department: "Head of Year 9 · Mathematics" answers most parents' first question.
- The school's main office number rather than any personal number.
- Office hours or your response-time norm ("I reply to emails within two school days"), it visibly reduces chase-up emails.
- The school's standard safeguarding or communication-policy line if your school has one.
What to leave out
- Personal social media of any kind.
- Personal mobile numbers, keep contact inside school systems.
- Decorative fonts and colours; parents forward these emails to ex-partners and solicitors more often than you'd think.
