Deploying Gmail Signatures via Chrome Extension (and Chrome Policy)
How extension-based signature deployment works, why it needs no Google security review, and how Workspace admins can force-install it fleet-wide.
01
How it works
The Sincerely extension installs a signature into Gmail's own settings using the user's already-authenticated session, the same action as pasting, performed perfectly, then verified by re-reading what Gmail saved. Every six hours it checks for central changes and silently re-installs when the template, the person's details or the campaign banner changed.
02
Why the architecture matters
Because nothing touches the Gmail API and no restricted OAuth scopes exist anywhere in the flow, there is no standing server-side credential that can read or write your company's mailboxes. The extension can do exactly one thing: manage the signature box. Security review by inspection takes minutes.
03
Fleet deployment via Chrome policy
For managed Chrome browsers, a Workspace admin can force-install the extension for the whole domain: Admin console → Devices → Chrome → Apps & extensions → add the extension ID with 'Force install'. Combined with directory sync, a 200-person rollout becomes literally one admin action, with per-person install status visible in the dashboard.
